Turkey Chase

Today, was my first experience of working on Thanksgiving for a newspaper publication.  The only assignment on the calendar was a community Thanksgiving dinner.  A local church gave out free Thanksgiving meals to everyone.  Whether you were poor, alone college student, family of 4, senior.. you name it, everyone was welcome.  On top of this, they even had volunteers to deliver meals to people at their homes.  I am posting a video to the website tomorrow.

Recently, I’ve been obsessed with my new toy, I mean phone, the iPhone 4.  I absolutely love this thing so much and the camera applications just make it so much fun.  Here’s some stuff I got with it today.

I used the application called “Hipstamatic Prints.”

It ain’t me babe

What are you going to be for Halloween? Me, I’m not even sure yet but, I do know I don’t want to wait till the last minute.

I went and took some pictures of a local costume shop.  One of the last costume shops with in an hour of here.  It’s been around for 25 years now.  Just a couple images from spending my time there.

You are the morning, I am the night.

So, I’m kind of changing the theme of my title names this time.  (Not like anyone looks or reads this to pick up on theme anyways.)

Well, I’ve been listening to a lot of the new album by The Walkmen, Lisbon.  I think it’s incredible. I’m keeping my fingers crossed about with them.  I’ve been in contact with their management and publicist.

Tonight, I wanted to keep working on my portfolio.  I decided to go through some old archives and found some nostalgic stuff with friends and some photos that I never have really looked at before.

It’s nice to look at your archives ONCE IN AWHILE.

The first 2 pictures are of Elizabeth Lloyd.  Just funny to see these again.

All I Really Want to Do

I know it’s been awhile since my last post.  I apologize for that.  But, I have been busy with life.

This weekend, there was a little music festival that went on in Charleston, Ill called “Woodchuck.”  It’s the second year it has been put on and it has been a blast both times.  Here are a few images from this weekend.

Forever Young

I’ve been following a few local bands recently. One in particular is the band Little Boy Junior. I get along great with these guys and I really dig on their style of music.  Don’t get me wrong, I appreciate a ton of other bands in this local scene as well (Howard, Andy Van Slyke, The Staff Blues Band, Tommy Gun GeishaMugwump Specific and Growing Oldish among others.) But, here’s a slim amount of some stuff I’ve gotten with the LBJ recently.

Never Say Goodbye

This is Buster.  I went home this weekend to dog sit for my parents and watch Buster for the weekend.  He’s about 14 or 15 years old and is on his last leg.  Whenever I go home, I try and get as many pictures of him as possible because there’s a good chance he won’t be here the next time I come home.

Crying like fire in the sun

The best day thus far in 2010 weather wise.  Luckily, there was a tennis match to go shoot.

I Threw it All Away

Today, I participated in a shootout in Chicago that I had been extremely pumped for.  I had no idea what the theme was going to be and I actually thought the shootout was planned for tomorrow.  So, when I show up to the conference today, I find out the shootout was this afternoon.  Shocked me a little and also made me a little nervous too.  None-the-less, I prepared  myself and I went out and did my thing.  The theme of the contest was “contrast.”  I originally thought about getting pictures with a high contrast in color.

But then I started to think about photojournalism instead of art photography.  While, I absolutely LOVE this picture, I really don’t feel it’s a “news worthy” photo.  Needless-to-say, I did not submit this photo for the contest.  The photos that were submitted were not editted at all.  All the photos that were submitted from each individual were straight from the memory card with no editing whatsoever.  This is the image I chose.

I chose this because there is a homeless man on Michigan Ave. asking for money from people passing by and here are 2 women walking by with there shopping bags in hand.  The contrast of poor to rich is what I was going for.  Not only that, there is also the contrast of the 2 women heading in different directions as well.  Ultimately, I really hope to place in the contest but I won’t find that out until tomorrow.  Here are more photos I got today.
